TOMÁS Mulcahy is set to become the new Glen Rovers senior hurling manager.

This year, the All-Ireland-winning captain of 1990 served as a selector as Richie Kelleher – who led the Glen to the county championship wins of 2015 and 2016 – returned to the managerial role.

Unfortunately for the Glen, they suffered relegation from the Premier Senior grade and Kelleher opted to step down from his post.

Now, Mulcahy has received the backing of the Glen’s executive to return to the job he held between 2006 and 2009.

During that first stint, the Glen won the county league and reached the county SHC semi-finals for the first time in a decade.

Mulcahy was then heavily linked with the Cork manager’s job in early 2009, following Gerald McCarthy’s resignation.

Denis Walsh was appointed on that occasion and, while Mulcahy was in the running again at the end of 2015, he was pipped by Kieran Kingston.

Ballincollig’s Johnny Dwyer had been linked to a coaching position but The Echo acknowledges this is not the case.

In next month’s county championship draws, the Glen will be top seeds along with this year’s beaten finalists Blarney and semi-finalists Bride Rovers.
