Disappointing night for Ryan Sheehan as he loses his WBC Muay-Thai Super Bantamweight title in front of his Cork fans

A disappointed and bruised Ryan Sheehan after his loss in a WBC Muay-Thai Super Bantamweight title fight at the Gurranabraher Credit Union Arena.

RYAN SHEEHAN lost his WBC Muay-Thai Super Bantamweight title against Italian Francesco Sotgiu from the Taipan Gym Sardinia in a Siam Warriors event, organised by Martin Horgan, at the Gurranabraher Credit Union Arena.

Ryan started his fight really composed and hurt his opponent with a powerful kick to the ribs.

Both fighters exchanged heavy blows on one another, however, Sheehan kept Sotgiu at bay with some high kicks and a flurry of punches to shade the first round.

The second round Sotgiu came out strong and Sheehan had to use all his experience in the opening minute, but again he finished the round by raining down a string of powerful blows to hurt his opponent again.

The Italian was on top in the third round and he had Sheehan in trouble in the early exchanges.

As the round matured Sheehan started to find his range again, however, a powerful elbow to the back of his head had him on the floor and he just survived the round.

Sheehan recovered to pull a string of devastating blows on his opponent at the start of the fourth round, but he received a nasty cut above the nose midway through the round. The Italian finished strong and had Sheehan in trouble again with two powerful punches to finish the round.

Sheehan looked very tired at the start of the final round, however, he kept coming forward with some spectacular high kicks.

To be fair Sotgiu kept his composure and finished strongly to win by unanimous decision to bring back the World titles to his native Italy.

"I’m really disappointed to lose my one of my titles in front of my local supporters, however, I can’t anything away from Francesco as he fought very well," Ryan said.

Earlier in the day young Siam Warriors star Aideen Mullins put in a superb display to stop her opponent Jolandda Carlino from Italy in the fourth round to add the WBC European title to the WBC World title she won last June.

It was a special day for the rising star as she got to showcase her skills In front of her friends and family.

"I’m so proud of my performance tonight and it was brilliant that I was able to get to fight in front of my friends and family.

"I’m so delighted that I added the European title and that all my hard work and dedication paid off on the night.

"I will be travelling to Munich in two weeks' time and I hope I can add the ISKA World title to my collection, as it would cap off an amazing year."

Another WBC world champion Colm O’Mahony also won his fight with Brice Equiron from Dublin to stay unbeaten and the Ballincollig fighter showed again that he has a very bright future ahead of him.
