IT certainly was Blue day at Crossmahon on Sunday when Blue Daisy pipped kennelmate Blue Lad in the IHT Senior draghunt that tested all hounds in humid conditions.

Trained by the husband and wife team of Ken and Trina Long this duo have been running out of their skins all season and this win for Blue Daisy wasn’t before time.

Indeed there is a good story behind this hound as it was formerly trained by Joe Simpson in Cumbria but sadly he fell ill and gave her to Ken and Trina to train and the rest is history.

On this occasion Blue Daisy showed a good kick on the finish with champion in waiting Authority filling third ticket.

Speaking after the draghunt kennel chief Trina Long praised the heart of her little hound.

“I think many people now know how we ended up with this hound and for her to win her first Senior draghunt after winning the Senior Maiden International already this season is what dreams are made of,” she said.

In the Senior Maiden draghunt the Ger and Jennifer Kenneally trained Freddie completed a Southern/Carrigaline Harriers double when winning from the Denise Rall Mayfield trained Magic’s Pride.

Kane took third ticket for Griffin United trainer Hughie O’Callaghan with the winning trainer Ger Kenneally delighted with his first win of the season.

“We only purchased this hound recently but on each run this season he looked to be improving and I think today was all about heart and determination,” he said.

The Puppy championship is certainly raising the temperature and the success of Jamie’s Dream at Timoleague on Friday has guaranteed a spectacular finish to the title race.

Trained by Aaron Freyne of Clogheen this was the third successive success for this inform hound and she is now within striking distance of leader Ashcroft of Northern Hunt who managed to get a crucial two points with this fifth ticket.

In another good finish the winner saw off the brave challenge of clubmate Not Now Ike ironically trained by his uncle William Freyne and cousin Ryan Duffy.

Hunters Zodiac has never been out of the tickets since getting purchased at the Donal O’Mahony draghunt and the Southern/Carrigaline father and daughter partnership of Ger and Jennifer Kenneally will be pleased with their new acquisition.

As there is a timeline on hounds coming into the country sadly Hunters Zodiac will be unable to compete in the Puppy All- Ireland.

Chloe’s Boy snatched fourth ticket for the Murray family of Shanakiel Harriers with Amazing of Northern Hunt filling six ticket.

Speaking after the draghunt the winning trainer Aaron Freyne couldn’t hide his delight.

“At the moment Jamie’s Dream is in the form of her life and hopefully that will continue until the end of the season,” he said.
