Former City striker Sadlier included in Ireland squad with strong Cork links

FORMER Cork City winger Kieran Sadlier has been named in a provisional 40-man Republic Of Ireland squad for the upcoming games against Switzerland and Bulgaria.
It is a first ever senior squad appearance for Sadlier, who has started the season brightly with English League One side Doncaster Rovers, scoring two goals in two games.
There are also maiden call-ups for talented Tottenham Hotspur youngster Troy Parrott and Stoke City defender Nathan Collins.
From a Leeside viewpoint, there are four Cork natives in the squad in John Egan, Kevin Long, Alan Browne and Conor Hourihane. While former City players Seani Maguire and Shane Long are also both included.
Despite the talk that he could be making his Premier League debut for Liverpool in the game against Southampton, there was no place for Caoimhín Kelleher among the four keeper named in McCarthy’s squad unveiled on Friday evening.
Meanwhile, Shamrock Rovers midfielder Jack Byrne and Southampton’s teenage striker Michael Obafemi were also included.
Speaking to FAI TV on his squad for the forthcoming internationals, McCarthy said the size of his provisional squad was due to the amount of club games in the coming weeks.
"I dont know what's going to happen between now and the next couple of games. We've got Saturday games, Tuesday games, Saturday and then the Saturday before me meet up. Players could get injured before we meet up."
Ireland welcome Switzerland to the Aviva for a crucial Euro 2020 qualifier on September 5, with the friendly against Bulgaria coming five-days later back at Lansdowne Road.
