Talented Cork rowers in Italy competing at prestigious Coupe
Ready for the Coupe De La Jeunesse. Among Irish representatives are Cork Boat Club's Jane Duggan, Vickie Hanlon and Claragh O'Sullivan.

IRELAND’S latest crop of talented young rowers are in action today on the opening day of the Coupe De La Jeunesse.

This renowned international regatta draws 2,000 of the finest young rowing athletes in the world each year, and this year the regatta takes place in Italy.

Our representatives include the impressive Jane Duggan, Claragh O’Sullivan and Vikie Hanlon of Cork Boat Club, and Aoife Lynch and Andrew Sheehan of Lee Rowing Club.

Jane and Claragh, both 18, compete as the Irish Pair, but were also selected to row in the Irish 8 on the opening day (today) of the Coupe De La Jeunesse, while Aoife is in the women’s four, Andrew in the men’s four, and Vicki coxing.

All have proved themselves with fantastic rowing achievements both here in Cork, in Ireland and abroad.

Jane and Claragh recently won at Ghent International Regatta in Belgium, London Metropolitan Regatta, and also won the Irish Rowing Championships, while Aoife Casey is the Cork Sculling Ladder champion.

Meanwhile, the Junior rowers pre-selected for the Junior World Championships in Japan next weekend include John Kearney of Cork Boat Club, Jack Dorney of Shandon Boat Club, and Leah O’Regan of Shandon BC.

Also next weekend the Shandon Boat Club first-ever Masters Regatta takes place at The Marina on Saturday, August 10, and targets rowers who are aged 27 and older.

It will be a nice spectacle with racing from 2pm to 6pm to the finish line at Shandon Boat Club, where the rowers will enjoy a barbeque at the end of racing.
