Ardscoil Rís 0-25 St Francis College Rochestown 0-9
ARDSCOIL Rís emerged comfortable Dr Harty Cup winners at Mallow.
They looked impressive in their defeat of St Francis College in this round two decider, the victory leaving Ardscoil Rís in the hunt for a quarter-final place when they take on CBC Cork in the final group C game.
St Francis College won the Munster B title earlier this year and are trying to find their feet in this prestigious competition. They were already defeated by CBC, so this was a must-win game for them. But, Ardscoil Rís held the aces and in county minors Colin Coughlan, Cathal O’Neill and Aidan O’Connor, they possessed match-winners.
O’Neill – who starred for Limerick minors this year – hit 0-13. O’Connor was productive at the edge of the square, and alongside him Shane O’Brien shone. Between them, they struck 10 points.
St Francis stayed with the Limerick side for the first 20 minutes, after which it was tied 0-5 apiece. Adam Cantwell got them off the mark in the 10th minute, and they stuck with Ardscoil with further points from Alan Connolly (3) and Paul O’Riordan.
But allowing their opponents in for nine unanswered points before half time left them with a lot to do, trailing 0-5 to 0-14.
Connolly (2), Aaron Sheehy and Cormac Dowd got in on the scoring act in the second half but overall, they had no answer to the supremacy of Ardscoil Rís.
The Limerick school moved 0-19 to 0-9 clear by the three-quarter mark. They drove home their advantage in the final quarter striking seven points without reply.
