Thurles CBS 1-25 St Colman's 2-13

THURLES CBS proved far too strong for St Colman's in the Harty Cup opener at Clonmel.

From the start the winners dominated and their half-forwards were very effective as they linked up very well taking some brilliant scores.

Jack Leamy, Darren Flood, Devon Ryan and Paddy Creedon were all on target as pushed 0-6 to 0-0 ahead after 12 minutes. Leon Doocey opened St Colman's account with Jake Carr and Pat Sheehan adding points but they were still five in arrears after 17 minutes.

The physically stronger Thurles side remained in control as Flood and Keith Ryan made it 0-10 to 0-3.

Cork minor Darragh Flynn pointed a free and the Fermoy side forced a penalty when Darragh O'Leary was fouled. However, Thurles keeper Jason O'Dwyer saved well from Flynn's penalty with the rebound going out for a 65 that was converted.

Down seven at the break, Darragh O'Leary pointed a free on the resumption with Adam Walsh firing in a goal after good play by Darragh Daly and Flynn.

Another Flynn free reduced the lead to two points but Thurles CBS took control from here to the end. A Creedon goal after being set up by Devon Ryan, Flood and Jack Lee was a killer blow.

It was 1-18 to 1-10 by the end of the third quarter and St Colman's were reduced to 14 players. They managed a goal, courtesy of Ben Nodwell, and three more points in the last quarter but Thurles raised six white flags in this period.
