Watch: Former Cork U20 footballer Mark Keane set for Aussie Rules debut
Cork's Mark Keane is set for his AFL debut this weekend when Collingwood face Fremantle.

FORMER Cork underage footballer Mark Keane makes his Aussie Rules debut this Sunday.

This Bank Holiday weekend is a hurling feast on Leeside, but Mitchelstown club man Keane will be facing Fremantle for Collingwood. He is seen here in a clip for the club's social media ringing his mother to tell her the good news.

Having lined out at minor and U20 for the Rebels, Keane was signed at the end of 2018 by Collingwood along with Derry's Anton Tohill.

He is following in the footsteps of the likes of Ciarán Sheehan, Michael Shields, Setanta and Aisake Ó hAilpín, Colin Corkery and Bernie Collins by giving the game Down Under a shot. Collingwood are ninth in the AFL but considered strong contenders for glory.

Keane also contacted his former club mates to let them know.

“Hello everyone back home. I’m playing my first game against the Fremantle Dockers this weekend.

"I’m sure Pa Magee will get you all going up and early and hopefully you’ll be able to watch it Sunday morning. Thank you.”

Mitchelstown won their opening round football clash last weekend, spearheaded by Cathail O'Mahony, Cork senior attacker.
