Kanturk 3-19 Na Piarsaigh 1-13

KANTURK showed their quality by overpowering Na Piarsaigh in the Rebel Óg Premier 2 Minor Hurling Championship on Wednesday night.

A haul of 3-4 from Alan Walsh and 0-6 from Colin Walsh showed why the Duhallow unit after considered one of the hot tips to land a trophy this season.

Cillian O’Leary knocked over the opening score of the game for Na Piarsaigh, but it was the visitors who were to have a strong opening spell. Kanturk pointed through early efforts by Brian O’Sullivan, who also added to their early tally through Colin Walsh.

Walsh was to get a cracking long-range point after 12 minutes of play. Although O’Leary slotted over another Piarsaigh score, Kanturk were in the ascendancy and Alan Walsh also was to get in the scoring act with precision strikes.

By the 23rd minute of play, it was Kanturk who were holding strong control of the contest. A well-worked team move finished off by Colin Walsh summed up their opening half display. Piarsaigh netted through a crisp Callum O’Leary strike. But Kanturk finished in pristine fashion.

Tommy Walsh and Oisin O’Connor got fine points from long range.

That was before Alan Walsh blasted the ball to the net, as Kanturk led 1-16 to 1-4 at half time.

Piarsaigh tried to mount an early second-half rally through early points. But Kanturk netted again through Alan Walsh to essentially put the matter to bed.

O’Sullivan added to the Kanturk total before Walsh netted again to cap off a fine evening for him and his side.

Next up for Na Piarsaigh in this group is a meeting with Newcestown, while Kanturk will go up against Valley Rovers. Those games take place on August 5.

Kanturk will look produce another impressive display similar to this one in Na Piarsaigh.
