U14 camogie titles head east after wins for Sars and Fr O'Neill's/Youghal

Sarsfields 4-22 Éire Óg 1-5 

A HUGELY impressive display saw Sarsfields overcome a gallant Éire Óg to take the Premier U14 championship at Castle Road. 

Playing against the stiff breeze in the opening half, Sarsfields laid the foundations for victory with early scores from Kate Fennessy, Nessa Treacy and Jane O’Brien. 

Taking control of proceedings with Rachel Roche and Ava Fitzgerald doing huge work they picked off some great scores. The brilliant Fennessy grabbed two goals and Fitzgerald, O’Brien, Neveah O’Connell and Sinead Hurley all found their range to open up a 2-10 to 0-5 interval lead. 

Éire Óg battled hard with points from Meabh McGoldrick, Clodagh Fitzgerald and Orlaith Cremin but as they turned to play against the wind they had a big job on their hands.

Sars star Fennessy was a thorn in the Éire Óg side and she added nine points in the second half.

Clodagh Fitzgerald raised a green flag for the Ovens oufit but goals from Nessa Treacy and Aoife Mullins kept them at bay. Mullins, Desmond, Hurley and Nessa Treacy added points for a highly-impressive Sars. 

Fennessy ending up with a stunning 2-15 to her credit, including 2-6 from play.

Fr O’Neill’s/Youghal 3-7 Enniskeane 2-7 

A GOAL separated the sides in an exciting U14 A championship final in Castle Road as the combination side Fr O’Neill’s/Youghal edged out Enniskeane.

Despite playing against the strong wind, Enniskeane were on top in the opening quarter.

Strong defending by the East Cork amalgamation limited Enniskeane to a point with Grace McCarthy getting the opening score of the game. At the first water break, Fr O’Neills /Youghal led 0-2 to 0-1. 

As the sides swapped points they were evenly matched but Fr O’Neill’s/Youghal were finding it easier to score, as they landed four points. 

Enniskeane hit back with two Grace McCarthy goals but Fr O’Neill's/Youghal responded with two frees before Aoibhe Daly sent a free to the Enniskeane net to cut their lead to the minimum at the interval.

Grainne Finn hit a point before and a Raina Landers goal gave Fr O’Neill’s/Youghal a four-point advantage with 15 minutes remaining. 

Enniskeane dug deep with Molly Hillard, Grace Nyhan and Maebh O'Brien on target before Hillard converted a free to level the game with three minutes remaining.

Now the battle was on to take the title and it was Fr O’Neill’s/Youghal who grabbed the vital score. 

Orlaith Murphy hit the match-winning goal to see the combination sides take the title.
