Goulding and O'Callaghan on song as Éire Óg footballers reach Senior A final

Éire Óg 2-10 O’Donovan Rossa 1-8

AN INJURY-TIME goal from influential centre-forward Colm O’Callaghan secured a deserved win for Éire Óg following this entertaining SAFC semi-final played in Clonakilty.

It was appropriate that Cork senior forward Colm O’Callaghan sealed victory with a neat goal. O’Callaghan produced a virtuoso display. His direct running and link up play were integral factors in their win. Éire Óg now advance to a county final showdown against Mallow next Sunday.

The pivotal moment in this game occurred in the 44th minute when Eire Og substitute Dylan Foley netted with his first touch. This moved his side three points lead, a lead the Rossas could not claw back. The Rossas were denied two goals in the opening half after Thomas Hegarty and David Shannon respectively were denied by Éire Óg custodian Chris Kelly.

O’Donovan Rossa started brightly despite playing against the stiff breeze. They raced into a two-point lead after six minutes following scores from Donal Óg Hodnett and Kevin Davis. Éire Óg quickly levelled proceedings following successive scores from Daniel Goulding and Eoin O’Shea.

David Shannon soon restored the Rossa’s advantage, but this was immediately nullified by a Colm O’Callaghan score. Éire Óg were now in the ascendancy. Midfield duo Jack Murphy and Ronan O’Toole began to dominate, while Colm O’Callaghan and Daniel Goulding were featuring more prominently.

Éire Óg kicked three consecutive points with a brace from inspirational captain Daniel Goulding and Colm O’Callaghan which moved them three points clear after 24 minutes. Donal Óg Hodnett reduced the deficit to two following a fine score. Colm O’Callaghan concluded the scoring in the opening half with his point ensuring Éire Óg led by three points, 0-7 to 0-4.

The Rossas started the second half brightly. They scored 1-1 within the opening six minutes. Donal Óg Hodnett with another sublime point, before he finished off a neat move with a powerful drive to the net. Daniel Goulding immediately levelled for Eire Og in the 40th minute.

The defining moment occurred when Dylan Foley netted from close range in the 44th minute. Rossa continued to battle valiantly. They reduced the arrears to one point with full-time approaching. 

Éire Óg sealed victory following two late scores from ace duo Goulding and O’Callaghan. Goulding pointed before Colm O’Callaghan netted for a famous win.
