Watch: Cork basketball beast Jordan Blount honoured by Chicago college

CORK basketballer powerhouse Jordan Blount is hoping to end his college career on a high after helping UIC into Monday's Horizon League Men’s Basketball Championship semi-final.

The northsider left Ireland aged just 15, moving to England and then Spain to pursue his hoop dreams and is in the final months of a four-year stint Stateside at the Chicago university. 

Now 23, the suffered a cruciate injury last summer but remarkably returned at the end of December with six points and six rebounds in a real statement of intent.

He's built up his match-fitness since and is likely to turn professional next season, having been sounded out already by a host of top European clubs.

A succession of Leesiders have gone to the US in recent years to combine their education with basketball, including Seán Jenkins, Darragh and Conor O'Sullivan, Edel Thornton and Adam Drummond.

Jordan was last week honoured by UIC for his passionate performances during his time in Chicago. 

They're fourth seeds in the Horizon League Men’s Basketball Championship but with Blount driving them on have every chance of causing an upset.

Blount's dad Gary is a well-known referee, while his siblings are also steeped in the game, with Gareth, Colm and Mollie regularly ripping it up on the courts in Cork. Colm will be togged out on Saturday when Tradehouse Central Ballincollig play their last home game of a league winning campaign in BCS at 4pm.
