Inniscarra and Courceys backbone Rearden's Camogie All-Star selection

AFTER retaining the Cork senior camogie title, Inniscarra backbone the Rearden's All-Star selection, which will be announced on Wednesday (7pm) in Rearden's.

There are seven players from the mid-Cork club in the line-up, picked by the Rearden's judges, along with five from runners-up Courcey Rovers, who went from being outsiders to finalists after an epic campaign.

Milford duo Christine O’Connor and Elaine O’Riordan are in the full-back line while Douglas’s Katrina Mackey also made the cut. The awards will be presented on Wednesday night, while the Camogie Player of the Year will also be announced.

1. Sheila Walsh (Inniscarra): Sheila had a very dependable season for Inniscarra between the posts. Confident and calm under the dropping ball and an excellent shot stopper, Inniscarra’s number one made a number of crucial saves during the course of the campaign.

2. Christine O’Connor (Milford): A highly dependable season. With minimum fuss Christine was tremendously reliable at corner-back.

With an attacking style, she broke down many a forward’s advancements particularly when games hung in the balance. She was instrumental in helping Milford reach the semi-final.

3. Elaine O’Riordan (Milford): Once again the full-back dynamo had a consistent and superb season for Milford. Teak-tough, never shying from the hard tackle, a great reader of the game and with great distribution.

4. Ciara Hayes (Courcey Rovers): A true leader in defence for Courcey Rovers, Ciara had an outstanding season. Tough, skilful, and a great reader of the game, Ciara intercepted many attacks during a great season for Courcey Rovers reaching their first County senior final.

5. Rena Buckley (Inniscarra): Having Rena in your side increases your chances of victory by 20%. Another dependable year from Miss Ice Cool. Her dependability, reading of the game and distribution, while marking opponent’s most threatening players all season, was exemplary.

6. Ashling Moloney (Courcey Rovers): Ashling played a captain’s role and led from centre back. Her semi-final performance against Milford was a highlight but from the start of the campaign she led an attacking and exciting Courcey Rovers side.

7. Rosie O’Mahony (Inniscarra): One of Inniscarra’s most consistent performers over the past number of seasons. Always positioning herself in the right place at the right time, Rosie had another great season. An unassuming leader in the team she is a vital cog in the wheel that is Inniscarra.

8. Jacinta Crowley (Courcey Rovers): Scorer of 27 points (11 from play). A top-class display of free taking during the season from Jacinta. A great performance in the opening round where she scored 10 points from play. Also displayed a great work ethic throughout the campaign.

9. Katie O’Mahony (Inniscarra): Always a player to give 100% on the field, Katie O’Mahony had one of her best seasons in the blue jersey. Her work rate, speed, and distribution from the middle of the park made her an invaluable asset.

10. Treasa McCarthy (Inniscarra): Throughout the entire campaign Treasa McCarthy wore her heart on her sleeve. She covered miles as she fell back to help defenders and drove forward with attacks. Will always make the hard run in an effort to dispossess opponents. A true Captain.

11. Niamh Dilworth (Inniscarra): What a season this Inniscarra stalwart had. Scorer of 2-34. Taking over the free taking responsibility Niamh was exceptional from all angles of the pitch as well as giving a huge contribution from play where she worked extremely hard.

12. Katrina Mackey (Douglas): Another scorer of 2-34, from five games, with 2-20 from play was another tremendous return for the Douglas and Cork star. A second-round replay against St Finbarr’s saw her hit nine points and drive Douglas into the third round.

13. Fiona Keating (Courcey Rovers): What a season this Cork minor enjoyed. To score 3-16 from play during the campaign was an incredible feat. Showing confidence, great speed, and a willingness to take responsibility, Fiona has a bright future ahead.

14. Niamh McCarthy (Inniscarra): A forward’s job isn’t just about finding the posts. It’s about working hard, doing the hard grind to also provide opportunities for others. Niamh had all of the above attributes for Inniscarra — making scores for her teammates, winning frees, and herself scoring 3-7 – a great year.

15. Linda Collins (Courcey Rovers): Despite being a marked woman in every game she lined out in Linda was a thorn in the side of the opposition.

All she needs is just one break and almost every time, the ball will hit the net. Scorer of 5-6 she can be proud of her contribution to Courceys' run this year.
