THE Cork hurlers have added to their management team in a bid to push on for All-Ireland glory.

Tom Kenny, a vital cog at the heart of the last Rebel team to lift Liam McCarthy, has been recruited to help with coaching for the remained of the campaign.

John Meyler's charges face the losers of the McDonagh Cup final, Laois versus Westmeath, on July 6-7 and then an All-Ireland quarter-final against the losers of the Kilkenny and Wexford Leinster final a week later.

Kenny excelled at midfield alongside Jerry O'Connor in the mid-noughties and was one of the best Cork hurlers never to win an All-Star. The 38-year-old, who also played inter-county football for a spell and won a minor All-Ireland in 1999, still lines out for his club Grenagh.

However he has also been prominent with UCC as a coach and selector in recent years, both in third-level competitions and in the SHC, reaching last year's county semi-finals.

Kenny has been in assisting Meyler and his selectors Kieran 'Fraggie' Murphy and Donal O'Mahony on the training ground over the past week and is now formally in the set-up.

A brief statement this evening explained: "Tom Kenny has joined the senior hurling management team and brings a wealth of experience to the CSH team. Tom will be assisting the coaching team."

Meanwhile the Cork U20 hurlers face Limerick next Wednesday night at Páirc Uí Rinn. The team, based around the 2017 minors who reached the All-Ireland, will be captained by Kildorrery's James Keating with Na Piarsaigh's Craig Hanifin the vice-captain.
