North Monastery Primary School has highlighted the need for improvements to its school facilities to Minister of State at the Department of Education, Cork TD Michael Moynihan.

The junior minister recently visited the school to officially open its modular building, celebrate the opening of the school’s fifth autism class, and to commend the staff for their commitment to their inclusive educational model.

Mr Moynihan said: “I am delighted to visit North Monastery Primary School, one of Cork’s historic educational institutions.

“The visit is a wonderful opportunity to see first-hand the dedication and hard work of the school’s management, teachers, SNAs, and support staff, whose commitment to students is second to none.

“While touring the school with the management team, we identified several areas of the building that will require attention. I look forward to working closely with the school to help resolve these issues and support its continued success.”

Damien Daly, school principal, added: “As a past pupil and now principal, I am proud to see North Monastery Primary School continue to grow and develop.

“Expanding our autism provision and developing our nurture room reflect our commitment to ensuring every child feels welcome, valued and supported to achieve their potential. Our staff bring that commitment to life every day.

“We look forward to building on this work, in partnership with our families and the wider community, to give all our children the best possible opportunities.”
