Two Wonder Wander walking trails highlighting Cork city's architectural heritage are due to open next year, with public feedback now being used to help shape the final routes.

The Wonder Wander Trail Network was launched in 2024 to celebrate the architecture, character, and stories of Ireland's Architectural Conservation Areas.

The Cork city trails are being developed as a joint initiative between the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage and Cork City Council's Architectural Conservation Office.

North Main Street and Oliver Plunkett Street have been selected as the locations for the two trails.

They trails will be self-guided with an illustrated map and a scavenger hunt, encouraging people of all ages to look up, look down, and look closer at often forgotten or overlooked places like historic shopfronts, post boxes, and street signage.

Community engagement events were held at the English Market and Cork City Library in September to gather suggestions from members of the public.

Cork City Council said local knowledge and memories would help shape the stories and landmarks featured on the trail maps.

Once public feedback has been compiled, the Cork City Wonder Wander trails are expected to open in spring 2027.
