John Spillane, Kila and Hermitage Green to appear at Macroom's Briery Gap

Comedian Chris Kent, Limerick crowd-pleasers Hermitage Green, trad band Kíla and Cork songwriter John Spillane are all among the acts lined up for the upcoming autumn/winter season at Macroom’s Briery Gap venue.

The new season is kicking off in style this week, with Corkman Chris Kent taking to the stage tonight and tomorrow.

Hermitage Green, celebrating 15 years together, will make their Briery Gap debut on the October bank holiday weekend.

Also on the line-up are Kíla, whose music scored the Oscar-nominated animations The Secret of Kells and Song of the Sea, playing in November, while Hothouse Flowers will come to Macroom for an acoustic show in February 2027.

Always a strong favourite with Briery Gap audiences, folk music is again at the heart of the programme with John Spillane, Maria Doyle Kennedy, Emma Langford and Oisín Leech all visiting the theatre as part of this season’s programme.

In November, the Macroom venue will host Cormac McCarthy, Aoife Ní Bhriain and Estonian musicians Duo Ruut for a night of music as part of the cultural progrmame for Ireland’s EU presidency.

Singer and actress Lisa Lambe will bring Bess Cronin: The Queen of Muscraí to the Briery Gap in December, a show built on the songs of the Ballyvourney sean-nós singer.

In theatre, John B Keane’s The Field comes to the stage courtesy of Hunters Moon Theatre Company in early November.

Newly-appointed Briery Gap director Pat Carey said that he feels that the autumn/winter programme has something for everyone.

“Musicians and writers from a few miles down the road share this programme with artists travelling from Clare, Limerick, Galway, Donegal, Dublin, from Estonia, and from further afield again. That is exactly as it should be.

“Our community being represented on our stage is a reflection of the wonderful talent that we hold in this part of the world.

“Whether you are a Briery Gap regular, or coming through our doors for the first time, we look forward to seeing you.”
