More seizures of e-scooters and scramblers by Gurranabraher gardaí

A KuKirin G3 scooter, which is capable of reaching speeds of approximately 75 km/h, was seized by Gurranabraher gardaí recently.

Gardaí attached to Gurranabraher Garda Station continue to target the illegal and unsafe use of e-scooters and scramblers.

Last week, gardaí seized two scramblers and five e-scooters as part of ongoing enforcement activity. One of the e-scooters seized was a KuKirin G3, which is capable of reaching speeds of approximately 75 km/h, significantly in excess of the 20 km/h maximum design speed permitted for an e-scooter to meet the legal requirements.

A garda spokesperson said: “High-powered e-scooters such as this can pose a serious risk to the rider and other road users, particularly when operated at excessive speeds or in an unsafe manner.

“Gardaí at Gurranabraher will continue to take enforcement action in relation to the illegal use of these vehicles,” said the spokesperson.

“We would also appeal to parents and guardians to be aware of the type and capabilities of e-scooters being used by young people and to consider the significant risks associated with these high-powered vehicles.

“Our priority remains the safety of all road users and the wider community.”
