Long awaited resurfacing works on busy Cork road to commence next month 

Long awaited resurfacing works on the N22 Carrigrohane Straight Road are to commence this September. 

The works will involve the resurfacing of a significant section of the Straight Road, from its junction with Church Hill/St Mary's Place, as far as Grassland Agro.

It follows a funding allocation of €2.5m earlier this year by the Department of Transport/Transport Infrastructure Ireland for the works on the road.

Sinn Féin councillor for the the city's South West ward Joe Lynch said that the news is welcome for the thousands of commuters who use the Straight Road on a daily basis, into and out of Cork city, "given it has been in a woeful condition for a number of years now."

Mr Lynch said: "I have been banging the drum on the need for resurfacing works to be undertaken on the N22 Carrigrohane/Straight Road, from Leemount junction at Carrigrohane as far as Grassland Agro, for a number of years now.

"With funding of €2.5m secured for works earlier this year, I have been in regular contact with city council management on the matter throughout the tendering process.

“I am pleased to confirm that council management has now informed me that works will commence in September, with works mostly due to take place by night.”

In a response to a query on the N22 Carrigrohane Straight Road works from The Echo, a spokesperson for Cork City Council confirmed that the council will release information about the exact scheduling of the works and traffic arrangements on the council’s social media pages in due course.

“Resurfacing works are planned on the Straight Road in September. However we are still in the process of finalising precise dates and traffic management plans, so we can’t confirm further details at the moment,” the spokesperson said.
