Heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms in store for Cork, according to latest outlook

Rain will dominate Tuesday afternoon and evening, with temperatures of up to 21C during the day.

The day will start off dry before showery rain develops in the south and moves northwards; heavy rain is expected in the south.

The rain will then start to move off to other parts of the country, leaving most of Munster mainly dry.

The weather on Wednesday will be mostly cloudy with patchy rain in the morning and scattered showers in the afternoon and early evening, some heavy with isolated thunderstorms possible. 

Met Éireann has said highs of 20C to 23C are expected.

Traffic 

Traffic appears to be moving well around the Dunkettle Interchange, with just some light congestion approaching the Jack Lynch Tunnel. 

There are currently no reports of any collisions. 

National outlook for rest of week 

Thursday will start off dry in many areas, with rain in the south and southeast which will turn heavy at times and lead to isolated thunderstorms and surface flooding. Temperatures of up to 22C are expected.

Showers will become more isolated on Thursday night, with patches of mist or fog and lows of 13C to 16C.

Friday will see a mix of bright or sunny spells and scattered showers, with highs of 17C to 21C.

It will be warmest in the southeast before rain develops in the west during the night and spreads eastwards.

Looking to the weekend, rain will clear in the morning, with sunshine and showers coming in from the west. Highs of 18C to 21C are expected.

Showery rain will spread eastwards on Sunday, turning heavy or thundery at times. It will be cooler with highs of up to 18C.

Looking into next week, current indications show that unsettled weather will continue with rain or showers at times.
