Armoured car from Michael Collins' tragic convoy to be put on display this weekend

The 1920 Sliabh na mBan armoured car, which formed part of General Michael Collins’ convoy at Béal na Bláth on the day he was killed in August 1922, will be on public display at Glasnevin Cemetery this Sunday, August 16.
The Rolls Royce armoured car at Glasnevin will be part of the annual commemoration of General Michael Collins and President Arthur Griffith.
Independent senator and former justice minister Michael McDowell will deliver the keynote oration at Collins’s grave, while historian Professor Michael Laffan will deliver an address at the grave of President Arthur Griffith.
The Defence Forces will also participate in the ceremony, with Brigadier General Mark Staunton laying a wreath.
The commemoration begins at 1pm, with attendees asked to be in place by 12.45pm.
The Collins/Griffith Commemoration has taken place annually since 1923, honouring the lives and legacies of two of the key figures in Ireland’s struggle for independence and the foundation of the Irish State.
