Man armed with hammer and accused of smashing into Cork house unable to raise necessary bail

A 44-year-old man armed with a hammer who is accused of smashing his way into a house in Farranree just before Christmas was remanded in continuing custody with consent to bail until July 31.

In the initial objection to bail being granted to Trevor O’Donoghue, Sergeant Gearóid Davis said the defendant was arrested at the scene.

“It is alleged (by the householder) that he could be heard banging on a garden wall at the back of the house.

“He then came through the living room window. Gardaí arrived and he was standing at the back door. He had a hammer in his hand. Gardaí shouted at him to drop the hammer which he did.

“The call came to gardaí to go to the house at Cushing Place, Farranree, at 3.40am on December 22, 2025,” Sgt Davis said.

Bail conditions require Trevor O’Donoghue to reside at an address at Kilbeg, Bandon, County Cork.

Also required is his own bail of €2,000, of which €1,500 is to be lodged in court, and an independent surety of €1,500 to be approved by the court.

While the accused was remanded in custody with consent to bail he has so far been unable to raise the necessary bail.
