Cork workers feel the pinch for World Blood Donor Day

Gas Networks Ireland employees Jane Gilvarry and Catherine Hogan join Margaret Noonan, from the IBTS clinic in St Finbarr’s Hospital, to mark World Blood Donor Day.

Employees from Gas Networks Ireland recently rolled up their sleeves to donate blood in Cork as part of World Blood Donor Day.

The annual drive is aimed at encouraging members of the public to donate blood, supporting patients who depend on life-saving blood donations and transfusions in hospitals every day.

The group from Gas Networks Ireland attended the Irish Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) donor clinic at St Finbarr’s Hospital in Cork, and are now encouraging more people to consider becoming blood donors.

The senior project delivery engineer at Gas Networks Ireland, Conor McEntegart, said the organisation is “proud to support the communities where we live and work”.

“It’s a really rewarding experience to be able to give something so simple that can make such a big difference,” said Mr McEntegart.

“There’s a great sense of pride among the team in taking part, especially knowing that these donations will directly support patients here in Cork and across Ireland.”

Margaret Noonan, of the IBTS, said every blood donation “helps patients in hospitals across Ireland, and contributes to maintaining a safe and sustainable blood supply”.

“Support from organisations like Gas Networks Ireland plays an important role in ensuring blood is available whenever and wherever it is needed,” said Ms Noonan.
