Fine Gael’s Eileen Lynch said she is looking forward to her new role in the Council of Europe.

Cork Fine Gael senator Eileen Lynch has been appointed to Ireland’s delegation to the parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe, by Tánaiste Simon Harris.

The Council, which brings together 46 member states, works to promote democracy, human rights, and the rule of law across the continent.

Through the parliamentary assembly, elected representatives from across Europe collaborate on issues affecting citizens and communities in every EU member state.

Ms Lynch told The Echo that she is honoured to take on the role and is looking forward to bringing the perspectives and priorities of local Cork and Irish communities to one of the most influential international institutions in Europe.

“This appointment is not only a personal honour, but an important opportunity for Cork North West to have a voice in discussions taking place at European level. Too often, people living in rural communities feel that their concerns are overlooked.”
