The launch of a cost rental housing scheme in Ringaskiddy has been welcomed by Fine Gael councillor for the Carrigaline municipal district, Jack White, who has described the development as “an important opportunity for working people and families struggling with rising housing costs”.

Cork County Council has announced that 17 homes will initially be made available under the Cost Rental Scheme at Warrens Court, Barnahely, Ringaskiddy. The development includes one two-bedroom bungalow, five two-bedroom mid-terrace houses and eleven three-bedroom terrace and semi-detached homes.

The Cost Rental model is aimed at people on middle incomes who are above the threshold for social housing but who face challenges accessing affordable accommodation in the private rental market or purchasing their own home.

The monthly rents for the homes are:

€1,230 for a two-bed bungalow.

€1,195 for a two bed mid terrace house.

€1,370 for a three-bed mid terrace house.

€1,475 for a three-bed semi-detached house.

€1,510 for a three-bed semi-detached/end-of-terrace house.

Mr White said that housing affordability remains one of the biggest challenges facing individuals and families across Cork Harbour.

“These new cost rental homes in Ringaskiddy will provide high-quality accommodation at rents that are below market rates, offering greater security and affordability for local people.”

He said many people find themselves earning too much to qualify for social housing supports but still struggle to meet the costs of renting privately or buying a home.

“This scheme is designed specifically to support those households and I would strongly encourage anyone who may be eligible to apply. Ringaskiddy continues to grow as a residential and employment centre and it is important that housing options are available for people who want to live and work in the area. This scheme is a welcome addition to the housing mix in our community,” said Mr White.

The online application portal for the scheme will open at noon on Monday, June 29, and close at noon on Monday, July 13. Full details on eligibility criteria, required documentation and the application process are available from Cork County Council’s website www.corkcoco. ie.

“Prospective applicants are encouraged to review the requirements in advance to ensure they have all necessary documentation ready when applications open,” said Mr White.
