Man arrested at West Cork Hotel has since entered drug treatment, court told

A Cork man who was arrested at a hotel in West Cork following what was described as “a domestic dispute” has since entered a drug treatment programme for cocaine addiction the district court has heard.
Sergeant Tom Mulcahy told Skibbereen District Court that gardaí were called to attend a disturbance at the West Cork Hotel in Skibbereen in the early hours of January 3, 2026.
When they arrived they found Ian Corcoran, aged 34, of Carrig Court, Church Road, Blackrock, Cork, in a highly intoxicated state in the hotel car park at 2.10am.
The court heard that Corcoran was involved in a domestic dispute in the hotel during which he grabbed his car keys and left the building. Gardaí were alerted by a concerned third party and Corcoran was eventually arrested in the car park for his own safety and the safety of others.
Corcoran pleaded guilty to being intoxicated in a public place and explained to the court that he had not appeared at a previous hearing because he had entered a 30-day residential drug treatment programme soon after the incident in Skibbereen.
The court heard that Corcoran, who represented himself, had five previous convictions for driving offences and had received a suspended sentence for driving without a licence. Corcoran told the court his addiction issue was with cocaine and that he had been drug-free since January and was now working in a warehouse.
Judge Joanne Carroll said that because Corcoran had undergone treatment she would admit him to a probation bond for 12 months on condition he would attend appropriate drug addiction services.
