The apartment scheme would also include a study hub, a reception area, and amenity spaces.

Plans for a 120-bed student accommodation scheme near University College Cork (UCC) have been lodged with City Hall.

Western Rd Guesthouse Ltd is seeking planning permission to build part four-storey, part five-storey accommodation to the rear of Crawford House and Killarney House, fronting Mardyke Walk. The building would have 120 beds across 21 apartments.

These would consist of one four-bedroom apartment, 12 five-bedroom units, and eight seven-bedroom units, with murals on both the eastern and western elevations.

The developer plans to remove a car park to the rear of Crawford House and Killarney House, which is bounded by Mardyke Walk and Western Rd, and to demolish sheds, boundary walls, and access gates to make way for the scheme.

Study hub

The apartment scheme would also include a study hub, a reception area, and amenity spaces.

In addition, Western Rd Guesthouse Ltd is seeking planning permission to convert a building at no 6, College View from five serviced apartments to one five-bedroom student townhouse.

It is also seeking to convert a single-storey garage at the rear of no 5, College View, to accommodate an ESB meter room, a laundry room, a bin store, and a bike store with 40 cycle spaces.

The developer is also seeking to construct an external communal landscaped courtyard, two rooftop terraces, and a balcony on the first floor of the apartment building.

The proposed development would also include 50 bicycle spaces and three car-parking spaces, with associated site-development works, including landscaping, boundary treatments, lighting, signage, and drainage works.

Cork City Council is due to decide on the plans by June 23.
