Lisa Murphy, a Mayfield Community Development Project volunteer, and Alice de la Cour, a community activist from Kinsale, have been named joint Cork Persons of the Month for April.

Ms Murphy established the local Chit Chat Group, and pursued higher education through Munster Technological University’s Access programme after leaving school at 13. She also supports people in crisis within her community.

Ms de la Cour volunteers with groups, including Kinsale & District Lions Club, Cancer Connect, Cork City Children’s Hospital Club, Kinsale Youth Support Services, Bumbleance and Chernobyl Children. She is also involved with St Catherine’s Cultural Centre.

Awards organiser Manus O’Callaghan said: “Lisa’s ability to use her own life experiences to create a safe space for others in Mayfield is truly remarkable. Equally, Alice’s decades of leadership in Kinsale and her vast contribution to children’s charities show a lifetime of selflessness.”
