The 13th annual mayor’s community awards for Cork county took place recently at Cork County Hall.
Hosted by the Mayor of the County of Cork Mary Linehan Foley, the event honoured 11 individuals and groups for their exceptional volunteer work and dedication to their local communities.
The winner of the overall individual award was Seamus Forde, of Carrignavar.

A retired farmer and also president of the Cork County Federation of Muintir na Tíre, Mr Forde was recognised for his service and leadership in initiatives such as Pride in Our Community and the Cork Schools Garden Project.
The winner of the overall group award was Carrigtwohill Community Council. The group was recognised for fostering local business and events and for managing the community centre, used by 20 local community groups, including Meals on Wheels and Carrigtwohill Tidy Towns.
Other award winners included Donal Hickey, picking up the individual award for the Western Division, Neil McDonnell, winning the Southern Division individual award, and Mossy Buckley, winning the individual award for the Northern Division.

Bandon Hyperbaric Oxygen Centre was recognised with a group award in the Western Division, with Youghal Business Alliance receiving similar recognition in the Southern Division.
The group award in the North Division was presented to Ballyhooly Community Sportsfield Ltd.
Willie O’Donovan was chosen as the winner of the Western Division Award at the mayor’s community awards.

The Southern Division award went to Rylane Community Park Association and the Northern Division Award went to Western Duhallow Men’s Shed.
Ms Linehan Foley praised the contribution made by the award winners to their local communities.
“The dedication shown by volunteers and community leaders across county Cork to improving their local areas is truly unmatched.
“Their resilience, generosity, and unwavering community spirit continue to inspire us all and these awards exist to celebrate their remarkable contributions.

“The calibre of this year’s nominees was exceptionally high, reflecting the extraordinary work taking place in towns and villages throughout the county.
“While these awards are only a small gesture, they represent our deep appreciation for the immeasurable impact each nominee has made in strengthening their community.”
Chief executive of Cork County Council, Moira Murrell, added: “Cork County Council is proud to work hand in hand with our elected members, local businesses, and community organisations to ensure our county continues to grow and thrive.

“This growth would not be possible without the people who freely give their time, energy, and passion to strengthening the fabric of our communities.
“To each nominee, your contribution is invaluable and I thank you all for the difference you make every day.”
