The Analog Devices Cork City Marathon, in partnership with Sanctuary Runners, has announced the launch of this year’s NextGen Solidarity 10km run.

The run, which is an official part of the Cork City Marathon, forms the 10km leg of the annual sporting event and aims to encourage people aged from 15 years old to participate in the programme.

The Cork City Marathon, which sees thousands of participants come together to raise funds for a range of local and national charities, is set to take place on May 31.

Analog Devices Cork City Marathon race director, Eamon Hayes, recently visited Coláiste Éamann Rís to launch the 10km run.

Speaking on the day, Mr Hayes said it was fantastic to see so many people out running.

“I’ve run nearly 50 marathons, but there is no way I could have run 10km at their age,” said Mr Hayes.

“Let’s hope they enjoy the experience, keep it up, and go on to take part in the full or half marathon in future years.”

Lord Mayor of Cork Fergal Dennehy said that he wishes all the young people taking part in The Next Gen Solidarity 10km “the very best of luck”.

“All of this takes a lot of organisation and preparation from all parties involved,” said Mr Dennehy.

“We hope to see this event grow and grow in the coming years.”

Joe Creech, Cork site lead and director at Analog Devices said it is “inspiring to see so many young people come together with such energy and enthusiasm”.

“Events like this highlight the power of community, encouraging healthy habits, and building confidence through shared experience,” said Mr Creech.

Graham Clifford, founder of Sanctuary Runners said the group is “very excited” to work with students across Cork.
