Man, 40s, hospitalised after assault in Cork City centre

A man has been hospitalised following an assault in Cork City centre on Friday afternoon. 

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the incident on Oliver Plunkett Street at around 12.40pm. 

The man, aged in his 40s, was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. 

A man in his 30s has since been arrested and taken to a Garda station in Cork City.

He is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

"Investigations are ongoing," a garda spokesperson said.
