An estimated 34,000 passengers are expected to travel through Cork Airport over this St Brigid’s bank holiday weekend.

This time of the year has become increasingly popular for travel since the bank holiday was introduced in 2023, with high demand for both inbound visitors to Cork and passengers that are departing for city breaks in the UK or Europe.

This weekend, visitors to Cork can enjoy local festivals such as the Ballincollig Winter Music Festival (January 26 – February 2) and Kinsale Beatlemania Weekend (January 30 – February 1).

The airport has overall recorded a strong start to 2026 with ski services from the airport busy, including to Lyon, Munich, Salzburg and the newest addition, Geneva.

Over the past two weekends, Topflight for Schools has introduced its seasonal charter services to Verona, with students from schools across Munster and beyond flying to the slopes for ski holidays.

Passengers flying from Cork Airport also travelled to sunnier regions in January, with flights from Cork to Malaga, Faro, Alicante, Lanzarote and Tenerife all experiencing an increase in passenger numbers.

SUMMER

The Cork Airport summer schedule for 2026 commences in March. There are three new routes will be added this year, two new Aer Lingus routes to Nice in France and Santiago de Compostela in Spain, along with a new SunExpress route to Antalya in Türkiye.

European hub connectivity is set for a boost this year from Cork airport, with 60% more seats to and from some of Europe’s busiest and best connected airports including Amsterdam Schiphol, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Frankfurt and Zurich.

As the St Brigid’s Bank Holiday weekend approaches, Niall MacCarthy, managing director at Cork Airport said that 2026 is off to a "fantastic" start for Cork Airport. "We’re looking forward to another excellent year," he told The Echo.

“As we invest in our facilities and make progress on some major capital investment projects, I’m very proud of our team who are delivering a safe and pleasant arriving passenger journey despite extensive construction within the terminal and on the campus.”
