Gardaí in a North Cork town are appealing for witnesses after an e-scooter collided with two pedestrians on Tuesday, injuring them, before the driver then fled the scene.

The incident occurred at approximately 6.30pm on Tuesday evening on McCurtain St in Fermoy.

The collision involved an e-scooter and two pedestrians.

The pedestrians, a woman in her 40s and a young girl, received treatment for their injuries.

The driver of the e-scooter left the scene.

A garda spokesperson told The Echo gardaí in Fermoy are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact them.

“The driver of the e-scooter failed to remain at the scene of the accident, and we are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything in the McCurtain Street area of Fermoy between 6.15pm and 6.45 pm on Tuesday, January 13, to get in touch.

“Gardaí are confident that the person of interest, whom we wish to speak to, lives within the community of Fermoy, and we are appealing to anyone who may have any information to please come forward,” the spokesperson said.

“The case is being actively led from Fermoy Garda Station, where investigating gardaí can be contacted on 025 82100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.”

Anyone with camera footage, including dash-cam, is asked to make that footage available.
