Call for improved Local Link services in East Cork

Transport for Ireland (TFI) is being called to deliver a revised and improved Local Link bus service for East Cork.
The matter was raised in a motion at the January East Cork municipal district meeting by Social Democrats county councillor Eamonn Horgan.
Mr Horgan is calling for TFI, the National Transport Authority (NTA), and Local Link Cork to introduce more frequent and fixed timetabled local link routes in East Cork.
He also is looking for improved connections to Midleton rail station and Cork city, along with reducing an over reliance on once weekly and booking only services.
Mr Horgan told The Echo that East Cork deserves a Local Link service that is reliable and fit for modern life.
“As a local representative for East Cork, I am increasingly concerned about the persistent inadequacies in Local Link services for our area,” Mr Horgan said.
“Local Link is a vital public service. For many people in rural Cork, it is the only alternative to private car use and a lifeline for access to work, education, healthcare, and social connection.
“However, when we compare East Cork to West Cork, it is clear that East Cork is being left behind.”
Mr Horgan hopes East Cork will receive fair and proportional investment with regards to local bus services.
