The late Ellen Cassidy 'brought laughter, warmth and positivity wherever she went, and she is missed more deeply than words can ever express'

Friends of Ellen Cassidy, who tragically passed away after taking part in the Cork City Marathon last June, will today take part in a fundraising event in her memory.

Friends of the late 24-year-old, including organiser Katie Walshe, will take part in HYROX Alpha Sim fitness event at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

The Alpha Sim event is deeply personal choice, as both Ellen and Katie had booked tickets to participate in a similar competition just two days before Ellen’s passing.

All donations raised will go directly to the Cassidy family, who will then determine how to best use the funds in Ellen’s memory.

A cybersecurity graduate from University College Cork (UCC), Ms Cassidy represented Ireland in swimming at the European Youth Olympics and European Junior Championships.

Ms Walshe said thanks to the support and kindness of Alpha Gym the fundraiser will be a way for people to come together to remember Ellen and “do something she really loved.”

Brightest

She said Ellen was “the brightest light in our lives.”

“She brought laughter, warmth and positivity wherever she went, and she is missed more deeply than words can ever express.

“Ellen had an unbelievable passion for sport and exercise, it was part of her every day and part of who she was.

“She thrived on challenge, community and movement, and she inspired everyone around her to be better, stronger and kinder.,” said Ms Walshe

“This fundraiser is our way of honouring her, remembering her, and continuing the strength and love she gave so freely to everyone she met. All donations will go directly to the Cassidy family, who will choose how best to use the funds in a way that truly honours Ellen,” she added.

“Any donation, no matter the size, would truly mean the world to us.

“Your support helps us celebrate Ellen’s life and keep her spirit alive in the way she would have loved most , through sport, togetherness and heart,” she added.
