Continued spells of winter sunshine are expected across Cork over the coming days before patches of drizzle, mist, fog and freezing-fog round out the week leading up to New Year’s.
According to Met Éireann, temperatures will reach a high of eight degrees tomorrow as dry conditions are predicted across Leeside.
The national forecaster said good spells of winter sunshine, coupled with light to moderate northeasterly breezes, will present fresh conditions along the South coast before temperatures will drop to a low of one degrees overnight.
Throughout tomorrow night there will be patches of drizzle along the South coast, with a mix of cloud and clear spells, and light to moderate northeasterly breezes.
Sunday will be mainly dry and cloudy across the Munster region, with further patches of drizzle possible in southern, coastal areas.
Temperatures will reach between five and nine degrees throughout Sunday, with light to moderate easterly winds, before dropping below freezing later in the evening, to as low as –1 degrees, with patches of mist, fog and/or freezing-fog forming in light and variable winds.
Monday will continue to be mostly dry and cloudy, reaching between temperatures of four and seven degrees, with further patches of light drizzle expected across the southern and western coasts of the region.
Clear spells will continue into Monday night, with temperatures reaching as low as –2 degrees in light northeasterly winds.
Cloudy conditions with scattered patches of light rain or drizzle will be further observed across Tuesday, with temperatures reaching between four to eight degrees in a light East to northeast wind.
Met Éireann has said while settled weather will continue over New Year's Eve, “there is likely to be more in the way of light rain and drizzle moving in for the start of January”.
The service additionally issued a small craft warning from Belfast Lough to Hook Head to Slyne Head yesterday, covering the coast of Cork, which came into effect at 2pm today and will remain in place until midnight on Sunday, as East to northeast winds will reach force six at times.
