St Luke’s selected for Safe Route to Schools funding

Councillor Kieran McCarthy said it was great to see St Luke’s Primary School, Douglas, being selected for funding from the national Safe Route to Schools scheme.

“The Safe Route to Schools programme is funded by the Department of Transport through the National Transport Authority (NTA),” said Cllr McCarthy.”

The Education and Community Action Team at An Taisce is co-ordinating the programme.

“The programme works closely with school communities, parents and local authorities to ensure that proposed road safety measures reflect local needs and gain broad support through community engagement.

“There will be road safety measures designed and put in place on Church Road in Douglas Village. The nature of these measures will go to public consultation at some point next year.

“I will keep my lobbying up as well for the other neighbourhood schools seeking funding from the national Safe Route to School scheme.”

Uber delight for Douglas

Uber has unwrapped its Irish rider ratings, revealing the top 10 areas across Ireland.

Every year Uber keeps millions of people across Ireland on the move, and drivers get the opportunity to rate their riders along the way. After 12 months of five-star journeys, Uber is revealing which areas of Ireland are top of the class.

This year, the nicest riders in all of Ireland hail from Douglas. They take the national crown for good behaviour and five-star etiquette, having soared up five places from their 2024 podium finish in fifth place.

Hot on their heels are Blanchardstown (Dublin), which rose one place to second, and Castletroy (Limerick), which fell one place to third this year. Other high scorers and new additions to the nice list include Cobh and Clontarf (Dublin).

Kieran Harte, general manager for Uber Ireland, said: “Taxi drivers are the heartbeat of Christmas travel – a little extra kindness, patience and respect for drivers goes a long way.”
