All About Cork: Christmas comes to Pearse Square
Locals show their delight with the surprise visit of Santa Claus to the Christmas in the Square event at Pearse Square in Ballyphehane.

Ballyphehane GAA will host the clubs first ever Poc Fada on St Stephen's Day .
Everyone is welcome to participate. The group will meet at the clubhouse on Tramore Road for registration at 10am sharp.
Anyone that does not have a hurley, will be provided with one on the morning.

There will be spot prizes and finger food on the day in Noel Murphys Bar.
Proceeds raised will go towards Cork City Missing Persons Search and Recovery.
Join all at Ballyphehane Community Centre on December 20 for a free Santa’s Grotto.
The event will run from 2pm to 5pm for an afternoon full of festive fun, with help from Harvey Norman Ireland.
There is free entry for everyone and an opportunity to take photos with Santa.
Take your own photos and bring your favourite one to Harvey Norman's to get it printed for free with one of the vouchers that will be handed out on the day.
There will be a sensory-friendly time from 2pm to 2:30pm where there will be a quieter session especially for autistic children before the main event.
Doors will close at 4pm, so make sure you arrive early and don’t miss out on all the magic.

Ballyphehane GAA are currently running a St. Vincent de Paul Children’s Christmas Appeal.
“This Christmas, we’re coming together to bring joy to local children aged 1 to 16 who need a little extra cheer,” a representative has said.
Here’s how you can help:
• Come to the Clubrooms between 6-7pm to pick up a gift slip with an age and gender.
• Buy a small gift, voucher, or make a donation for that child.
• Drop off your gift at the Clubrooms between 6-7pm
• If you prefer to donate money, we’ll use it to buy gifts or vouchers to make sure every child gets something special.
The death has occurred of Jim Hanley formerly of Loretto Park, Friars Walk.
Mr Hanley passed on December 14, unexpectedly at home.
Jim who is late of Hanley’s Garden Centre will be reposed at Fordes Funeral Home, South Gate Bridge on Wednesday 17th from 5.00pm until 6.00pm. Requiem Mass on Thursday 18th at 10.30am in Church of the Incarnation, Frankfield and funeral afterwards to St. Michael’s Cemetery, Blackrock.
Ballyphehane GAA has advised all to save the date for a Dinner Dance on Saturday, January 31 from 6pm until late.
The event will be held at Rochestown Park Hotel and promises to be a night of fantastic food, music and celebration with live music from J90, followed by a DJ.
