A woman in her 60s has been killed in a road collision in East Cork.

A woman in her 60s has been killed in a road collision in East Cork.

The woman, who is understood to be from the northside of Cork City, was one of two people travelling in a car which was in collision with a 4x4 vehicle on the N25 near the Lakeview Roundabout in Midleton at 6.15pm on Monday evening.

The second person in the car, a man, was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was being treated for serious injuries.

The driver of the 4x4 was treated at the scene and did not require hospital treatment.

An autopsy is expected to be carried out on the woman’s body on Tuesday.

The road has been closed and will remain closed overnight, ahead of a forensic collision investigation at the scene on Tuesday morning. Diversions have been put in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who travelled the route, which is on the main Midleton to Youghal road, between 6pm and 6.30pm to contact Midleton Garda Station on (021) 4621550.
