Artist Paula Lowry has launched of her art exhibition at Mayfield Library in Cork City. The exhibition will run from December 2 to December 31.
Families and friends of Mayfield were treated to a night of music, games and laughter for Oíche na h-Óige.
Foroige Mayfield-St. Joseph's UBU, St. Joseph's No Name Club and The Arbutus Girl Guides facilitated the event.
Music Mash Up Seniors launched the night with a performance of classic songs, which was followed by some fun bingo. Fifa tournaments, arts and crafts, horticulture activities and plenty of food were also part of the evening, funded by the Cork ETB.

On the weekend of 21 and 22 December, the popular Annual Christmas Cakes Raffle will take place at Our Lady Crowned Church – Mayfield.
The 10 Christmas Cakes have been made, decorated and kindly donated by Mrs Mary Hurley. Raffle will take place at the end of each of the masses.
Cork City Council have said that the extension and refurbishment of the Frank O'Connor Library, Mayfield, incorporating St Joseph's Community Centre “is a priority project for Cork City Council”.
The council’s director of Corporate, Community and Cultural Affairs, Rebecca Loughry, told Labour’s John Maher that the library element of the project was progressed through the government’s Four Stage Capital Management Process and Stage 2 Approval issued on 27 October 2022.
Cork City Council submitted a full application for funding for Mayfield Library in April 2023, but despite “strong preparatory work and close liaison with the Department”, the application was unsuccessful.
Ms Loughry said that a part 8 planning application was approved by Councillors at the monthly meeting in October 2024.
“The proposals for the refurbishment approved at Council include the internal reconfiguration of the building and the construction of a shared entrance to both the Library and the Community Centre via a new extension on the existing site footprint, on the Old Youghal Road.
“Further planned extensions on the eastern side of the library (currently a car park area), and to the rear of the building on the southern side, will expand the available floor space of the library and provide shared and accessible communal spaces to be enjoyed by patrons of the community centre and library alike.” The building fabric will also be upgraded to improve energy efficiency and sustainability, and there will be enhancements to the surrounding public realm and a new public plaza to the east of the building.
The part 8 approval “places the Mayfield development in a key place for funding applications once the opportunity arises”, and the next opportunity to apply for Library Capital Funding will come in 2027, she said.
Mr Maher said: “I hope that come 2027, the much-needed funding is delivered. The current library is one that I used as a child and is need of upgrade and expansion to cater for growing communities. The project application submitted also includes an upgrade to St. Joseph's Community Centre, a centre that caters for many groups of all ages across our community.”
