A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist the family of 44-year-old postman Barry Daly who died after he was attacked outside his home in Rockview Terrace, Doneraile, last month.
Alex Deady, aged 20, of Glenview, Convent Road in Doneraile and two boys aged 17 and 16 have been charged with the murder of Mr Daly. The teenagers cannot be named for legal reasons.
Friends of Barry and his partner Katie O’Reilly have established a fund to help his loved ones.
“It’s impossible to comprehend the pain that Katie and the boys are enduring. Barry was known to everyone as a funny, kind, and caring man — a loyal friend, a loving partner, and an incredible father. He was deeply dedicated to his job which he loved with An Post and took immense pride in providing for his family. Above all, he cherished every moment with his children: Jayden (17), Jaxon (10), Archie (9), and Bodhi (2).”
Susie Sexton, who is the organiser of the fundraiser, said that the road ahead for Katie is “unimaginably difficult”.
“Life had already tested Katie and Barry in the past. Ten years ago, their world was turned upside down when Jaxon, at just three days old, was rushed into intensive care and diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. Katie and Barry never left his side, and thanks to their strength and prayers, Jaxon pulled through. However, the illness left lasting effects — brain damage causing speech and learning difficulties requiring ongoing care.
”As Barry was the main provider for his family, we are hoping to offer some support through this Go Fund Me. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help secure the boy’s future — from ongoing medical care for Jaxon to future education costs for the other boys.”
Mr Daly was laid to rest at Old Court cemetery in Doneraile following requiem mass at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin in the town last month.
