Mallow Town Hall Theatre Project

Cork County Council has announced progress on the long-awaited redevelopment of Mallow Town Hall into a dedicated regional arts centre, with construction to start next year.

Cork County Council said the second stage in the construction tender process for the Mallow Town Hall Theatre project was advertised on Thursday, September 11.

A contract was signed for the centre in 2016, but in 2018 concerns were raised about the future of the project after it emerged that funding set aside for it had been reallocated to the Mallow Bridge boardwalk.

In August 2024, funding of €7m was announced for the transformation of the hall, in a move which was described as a “game changer” for the town by Fianna Fáil councillor Pat Hayes.

The new project will see the repurposing of the historic Mallow Town Hall into a theatre and multi-use arts centre aimed at invigorating Mallow town centre, fostering a vibrant cultural scene and attracting visitors, businesses, and residents alike, thereby revitalising local commerce and community engagement.

The tender return date is October 24 this year, and thereafter tenders will be assessed before the appointment of the successful tenderer.

It is envisaged that, subject to a successful outcome of the tender process, the construction works will start in late February next year with a 15- to 18-month construction period.

The Mallow Town Hall Theatre Project is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Southern, Eastern, and Midland Regional Programme 2021-2027 and Cork County Council.
