The IndieCork Festival has announced that this year’s event will be its “last hurrah”.
A festival committee spokesperson said the decision has been “in the making for the past year”, following the death last October of founder Tony Langlois.
“Tony was the spirit of IndieCork. He founded the festival, and was its heart and soul. He steered the ship and kept us focused on the good we could do as a collective, always with the aim of shining a light on Cork talent,” said the spokesperson.

“We have missed him enormously, and we dedicate our final 13th edition to his memory.
“Since the festival began, our aim was to become a sustainable festival and, although we are grateful to have received invaluable support over the years, we’ve not succeeded in securing the level of annual funding that allows us develop, create jobs, and plan for future.”
In 2013, the festival committee formed as a co-operative, with Mr Langlois spearheading the organisation. While the company is entirely a voluntary organisation, the festival spokesperson said that they “cannot continue to rely on this model into the future”.
“As a collective, we have long been a motley crew, welcoming divergent personalities and perspectives, always with an open door,” they said. “We’re proud of what we’ve achieved over the past 13 years, offering a platform to new voices from all backgrounds, but particularly to local Cork filmmakers and musicians.
“We would like to thank all those who have participated in IndieCork, and contributed many happy memories,” they added.
“We’re proud to have worked with you and to have done some good in supporting Cork-based independent film- and music-making. We look forward to the forthcoming October festival, and hope that people will enjoy our last hurrah.”
