Batches of a Macroom-based ricotta and buffalo cheese range have been recalled by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) due to the presence of the bacterial illness, listeria.
The Toons Bridge Dairy Ricotta & Buffalo Ricotta cheeses were recalled yesterday by the FSAI due to the presence of ‘listeria monocytogenes’.
The authority said that the recall notices will be displayed at point-of-sale in retail outlets.
It added:
It outlined that the products involved in the recall are the Toons Bridge Dairy Ricotta 200g and 1kg packs with the following use-by dates: 28/08/2025, 29/08/2025, 30/08/2025, 31/08/2025, 01/09/2025, 04/09/2025 and 05/09/2025.
The other product involved in the recall is the Toons Bridge Dairy Buffalo Ricotta 200g and 1kg packs with use-by dates of 28/08/2025, 29/08/2025, 30/08/2025, 01/09/2025, 04/09/2025 and 05/09/2025.
Consumers are advised not to eat the implicated batches.
The FSAI says that symptoms of listeria monocytogenes infection can include mild flu-like symptoms, or gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
In rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications.
Some people are more vulnerable to listeria monocytogenes infections, including pregnant women, babies, and people with weakened immune systems, including the elderly.
The incubation period (time between initial infection and first symptoms appearing) is on average three weeks but can range between three and 70 days.
