The Nano Nagle Place museum’s 2025 Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice award places it among the top 10% of attractions worldwide.

A Cork institution which is the country’s only museum dedicated solely to the life and legacy of a woman, is celebrating significant national and international achievements.

In the same week that Nano Nagle Place was awarded full accreditation by the Heritage Council under the Museum Standards Programme for Ireland (MSPI), it was also recognised with a Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice award for 2025.

Trailblazer

Situated in the heart of Cork city, and opened in 2017, the museum tells the story of Nano Nagle, an 18th-century trailblazer who defied the penal laws to secretly educate poor Catholic children.

MSPI accreditation is the highest standard of museum excellence in Ireland. John Smith, CEO of Nano Nagle Place, said the institution was more than a museum, describing it as “a living legacy”. “These awards are a powerful endorsement of our mission to honour a pioneering woman whose impact still resonates today,” he said.

Top 10%

The museum’s 2025 Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice award places it among the top 10% of attractions worldwide.

Susannah Ahern, programme, heritage and education manager at Nano Nagle Place, said visitors were often surprised by how moved they were by their experience there.

“Our museum doesn’t just preserve history, it brings Nano’s values to life.”

In addition to its work as a museum, Nano Nagle Place champions inclusion, education, and social justice through projects like the Lantern Project, the Cork Migrant Centre, its men’s group, and a spirituality programme.
