A Cork senator has welcomed the beginning of the annual Farm Safety Week, which aims to raise awareness of the dangers and risks that are present on the farm.

Run by the Irish Farmers Association (IFA) in conjunction with farming organisations across the UK, Farm Safety Week runs until this Friday, July 25.

The objective of Farm Safety week is to raise awareness of the dangers and risks that are present on the farm.

Speaking about Farm Safety Week 2025, Cork North West Fine Gael Senator Eileen Lynch, who comes from an agricultural background, said:

“Having grown up on a farm myself, I know that there are hazards involved in almost every activity and area on the farm.

“That includes machinery, equipment and livestock. It is vital that we take this week to raise awareness surrounding these dangers and ensuring safety on the farm at all times.”

Ms Lynch added: “We are very lucky to have had so many brave survivors come forward and share their stories. Each story told goes a long way to promote farm safety and hopefully save many others from the numerous dangers that they face on the farm on a daily basis.

“Having people share their experience is a great help in raising awareness and hopefully preventing accidents”

The IFA provides resources in relation to farm safety, including information about the dangers that can be faced on the farm, the area of child safety on farms, and information about farmers’ mental health and wellbeing.

In regard to farmers’ mental health and wellbeing, the IFA also has a guide for farmers on how to deal with stress in all areas of life.
