Liam Quaide, Social Democrats TD in Cork East, said the proposed primary care centre would be "transformative" for Midleton.

Conditional planning approval has been granted by Cork County Council for a primary care centre in Midleton.

A planning application for a primary care centre at Market Green was lodged last October under the name of Kendrick Properties Ltd. News of its conditional approval by Cork County Council was welcomed by Social Democrats TD for Cork East, Liam Quaide.

“It’s encouraging to see Midleton primary care centre being granted conditional planning approval,” Mr Quaide said.

“I worked for eight years as a psychologist in Mallow primary care centre and saw the immense difference it made to healthcare in North Cork.

“This new primary care centre in Midleton will be transformative for the town and surrounding areas, as will the planned primary care centre for Youghal.”

Earlier this year, the HSE said it expected the Youghal primary care centre to open by summer of 2027.

The proposed Midleton centre will be a four-storey building measuring 5,250sq m and consisting of HSE facilities including consulting rooms, treatment areas, meeting rooms, offices and support spaces, as well as two general practitioners’ suites.

A total of 123 parking spaces are proposed, including 87 standard car parking bays, eight disabled parking spaces, 12 parent and child spaces, 12 electric vehicle charging spaces, and four motorcycle parking bays.

There would also be 60 bicycle parking spaces, 40 covered and 20 uncovered.
