Conor Mowlds, is to step down from his position as chief commercial officer with the Port of Cork.

A member of the leadership team of The Port of Cork Company is to depart the company in the coming weeks, as recruitment is to begin shortly to fill the role.

The chief commercial officer, Conor Mowlds, has made the decision to step down from his role and will be taking up a new international opportunity within the maritime sector, a statement from the company confirmed yesterday.

Mr Mowlds joined the Port of Cork Company in 2018, having served as head of the National Maritime College of Ireland prior, as well as holding various senior roles in both the public and private sectors in Ireland and the UK, including with GAC Group, NMCI Services, the Irish Maritime Development Office, and the Marine Institute.

He is also currently the chairperson of Cruise Ireland and was recently appointed to the board of the British Irish Chamber of Commerce.

Originally from Dublin, Mr Mowlds is a graduate in maritime business and law from Southampton and is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.

Interim arrangements 

Interim arrangements are being made, and details of the recruitment process for the chief commercial officer role will be published in due course, the company’s statement said.

Speaking on behalf of the company, chief executive officer Ann Doherty, who was appointed to the role at the end of last year after a decade as chief executive of Cork City Council, thanked him for his contributions to the company.

“On behalf of the Port of Cork Company, I would like to sincerely thank Conor for his outstanding contribution over the past six years,” she said. 

“His deep industry expertise, commercial acumen, and dedication to the port’s development have played a significant role in shaping our future. We wish Conor every success as he embarks on this exciting new chapter in his international career.”
