Lord Mayor hosts Celtic FC players ahead of Super Cup game with Cork City

Lord Mayor of Cork Fergal Dennehy hosted a Mayoral Reception at City Hall for Celtic FC and Cork City FC this evening, ahead of tomorrow night's highly anticipated Cork Super Cup.
The pre-season friendly is taking place at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh with a kick-off time of 6pm.
The event is expected to generate millions for local businesses, the Lord Mayor welcomed Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers and his squad, along with Cork City FC manager Gerard Nash and members of the Cork City team as well as representatives of Cork GAA.
Mr Dennehy highlighted the significance of the event, saying: “I am honoured to welcome Brendan and his team, the reigning Scottish Premiership Champions, to Cork City Hall this evening ahead of the Super Cup game against our very own Cork City tomorrow.
“I want to extend my welcome to one of our very own sons of Cork and former College Corinthians player, Adam Idah. This is an incredible sporting event to welcome to our city, and I want to extend my thanks to the organisers and supporters who have made this game possible.”
The Cork Super Cup is a joint venture between Cork GAA and Druid Sport Agency and is only the fourth ever soccer match to be staged at the historic grounds, and the first competitive men’s game. The winners will lift a specially commissioned Cork Super Cup trophy, designed by Cork GAA legend Ger McCarthy.
Commenting ahead of the clash Pat Horgan, Chairman of the Cork County Board said: “It is a great privilege to welcome Celtic and Cork City to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh for this must-see evening of soccer. I would like to thank the Lord Mayor for hosting this Mayoral Reception as we build on the excitement ahead of tomorrow’s evening’s game.”
