New RTE series The Pitch features Castlehaven GAA in West Cork this Sunday

Castlehaven GAA club is to feature on the opening episode this Sunday at 7pm of The Pitch on RTÉ Radio 1, a new series exploring the role GAA clubs play in their communities.

In the first episode, presenter John Murray explores the history of Castlehaven GAA and the club’s triumphs, speaking with local figures including Cork footballing great Niall Cahalane.

Throughout the series, Mr Murray travels to hear powerful stories from GAA clubs across Ireland. 

He will also in the series visit Mullinalaghta in Longford, a club known for their 2018 Leinster Club Football Championship victory.

Mr Murray will also visit Sarsfields GAA in Galway, to examine the success that the camogie team are having at the club.

He also will visit Edenderry GAA in Offaly, where a “One Club” model has transformed the organisation over the past decade and Dublin-based Na Gaeil Aeracha, the first LGBTQ+ club in the GAA, celebrating their first bit of silverware after just five years in existence.

While Mr Murray will also visit Loughgiel Shamrocks, a small community of just over 420 people in the glens of Antrim.

The Pitch, a look at grassroots GAA life, commences this Sunday, July 6 at 7pm on RTÉ Radio 1.
